Trendy Kitchens in Black + White

Black and white is a classic base for a color palette that never goes out of style with “base” being the operative word. Even with the sleek sophistication that black and white brings, there is a dangerous pitfall to this combo. A kitchen in strictly black and white leaves no room for evolution and over time, can feel unvaried, even monotonous. Altering a kitchen can be difficult and costly. To avoid this common trap, let us explore some design tricks to ensure your black and white kitchen doesn’t fall flat:

  • The Golden Touch: Now this may be a matter of opinion, but as this is my page, I suppose this betch’s opinion matters. And gold, I say! Nothing is more striking within a black and white palette than that sexy, metallic minx. Gold hardware for the cabinetry, a gold faucet, and gold light fixtures are an easy way to incorporate that temptress of a color.
  • Embrace Pattern: Sure black and white is lux as hell, but I like adding personal touches to avoid a toneless feel. Pattern is a great way to introduce personality, add some trend and provide visual interest, especially within a narrowed color palette. Rugs, curtains, bar stools and select decor are ideal ways to assimilate pattern and even a little color, if you so choose. Plus, you can always swop these things out over time as your taste evolves.
  • The Critical Backdrop: So you are pumped about your chosen black and white theme, well slow your roll! Don’t lose yourself choosing checkered floor tiles or imagining dramatic patterns within black and white backsplashes. Structural features like these are difficult and costly to change, diminishing the resale value of your home. Be semi-practical. If you are renovating or making functional design decisions, make selections that can be considered more neutral. Countertops, cabinetry, backdrops and flooring should escape drastic measures.
