Rustic Chic: The New Normal

Not too long ago, rustic style took dedication. From wood logs to flannel blankets to mounted deer heads, owners had to deeply commit to achieve the look resembling the pioneer era. Now, rustic elements are becoming blended with chic pieces for a unique style hybrid of glam and down to earth.

Rustic chic presents subtle color contrast, a variety of textures and a mix of distressed style elements with a touch of sass. For instance, arranging a hammered metallic candle votive or vase on a floating wood mantle or hanging a distressed wood rack over sleek kitchen counters to support copper pans and pots. Rustic chic promotes the pairing of swanky textures such as metallics, suede, velvet, shiny tile, acrylic, faux fur, glass and antiquated mirrors with natural wood furnishings and rustic style elements. Think distressed, bleached wood, tufted upholstery, shiny metals, brass hardware, fringe, floating shelves, nailheads and soft lighting (choose chandeliers or fancy sconces).
